Mankey 100% perfect IV stats, shiny Mankey preview in Pokémon Go

Everything you need to know about Mankey’s Spotlight Hour.

This week’s Spotlight Hour is all the Pig Monkey Pokémon. This famous angry boi holds a very special place in many Trainer's hearts, and with the 2022 addition of a third evolution, Annihilape, to this Gen 1 Pokémon (which is yet to be added to Pokémon Go), this event is a great opportunity to catch a perfect Mankey in Pokémon Go.

Mankey is a great choice for Spotlight Hour, given that its final form - the Paldean Pokémon Annihilape is a beater in PVP. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure, Annihilape is a Primeape that got so angry it died and became a Ghost-type Pokémon.

If you’re not keen on PVP, you'll be pleased to know that the bonus for this week’s Spotlight Hour is the much-loved double transfer candy bonus that runs alongside the event. It's time to release all the stuff you don’t want from last month's events!

Mankey 100% perfect IV stats

This week’s Spotlight Hour is a great opportunity to catch a Mankey with perfect IV stats.

Mankey.

'Perfect' means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there’s the maxed out, 100% IV version, which is the 15/15/15 you’re looking for your 4* Pokédex, raids and Master League. Yet, because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect IV Pokémon is generally only ever the best version of itself in the Master League.

Of course, you can’t see the IV of a Pokémon without catching it first, but with a little research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Mankey based on the CP alone.

If you’re at Level 30 (or above), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Mankey:

  • Level 30 (wild CP maximum) - 998 CP
  • Level 35 (weather-boosted wild CP maximum) - 1081 CP
  • The wild CP value aligns with your Trainer Level until you reach Level 30 and, due to the majority of the player base now being above this level, we’ve kept to these values for the sake of simplicity. These values will, however, be different if you’re currently below Level 30.

    Is Annihilape good in PVP?

Oh lord Arceus, it's beautiful. Annihilape is everything we hoped it would be in PVP, currently ranking among the very best in Great League, the top tier in Ultra League and - believe it or not - it's not bad in Master League either.

    Annihilape.

In Great League, you're looking for a 2/15/15 Mankey that will evolve into a 1499 CP Annihilape at level 17. Running Counter, Night Slash and Shadow Ball, we have an incredibly spammy and dynamic Pokémon that lays down tremendous Fast Move and Shield Pressure. Annihilape is an absolute demon in this league.

You can look forward to beating the stuffing out of Vigoroth and beating (though less mercilessly) Skarmory, Shadow Whiscash, Lanturn and Charjabug. You will pretty much instantly lose to Shadow Gligar however, and lose pretty convincingly to Mandibuzz, Azumarill, Talonflame and Lickitung. Bear those match-ups in mind as you build your team.

In Ultra League, you’ll want a Level 28.5 Annihilape (2492 CP, 0/15/15) to really shine. You'll also want to swap Night Slash for Ice Punch to make the most of the match-ups in this meta.

This relatively cheap investment will help you very quickly beat Poliwrath and Cobalion, and beat Swampert, Steelix and Virizion slightly less quickly. You should expect to lose (again instantly) to Jellicent and Giratina Altered, and (less convincingly to) Tapu Fini, Talonflame and Cresselia.

What’s really exciting is that Annihilape is actually reasonable in Master League if you stick with the Ultra League moveset. So what will a perfect 15/15/15 at level 50 get you for your investment? A 3695 CP Annihilape that beats Melmetal into the ground, for a start, along with convincing wins against Swampert, Excadrill, Dialga and Garchomp. It's not all gravy though - expect instant losses against Giratina Origin and Mewtwo, and much slower losses against Therian Landorus, Kyogre and Dragonite.

The Shared Skies Season is here! Go Fest 2024 may have been and gone, but you can still play around with the Fusion mechanic. Meanwhile, ticket holders can finish Go Fest 2024: A Shadowy Caper and The Dusk Settles. Don't forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.

Is there a shiny Mankey in Pokémon Go?

Yes, as with all Kantonian Pokémon, there is a shiny Mankey in Pokémon Go. In this case, shiny Mankey joined the game in March 2019 as part of the Battle Showdown 2019 event!

What does shiny Mankey look like?

As you can see below, shiny Mankey falls to the curse of bad Gen 1 shinies. Like its brother in arms, Machop, the devs looked at it and clearly said 'Ok, but what about if we make it nauseating green?'

Shiny Primeape, is somehow worse. This time, all they did was lightly nudge the green saturation slider and call it a day. It’s like how an engineer will just add another camera to the back of an iPhone and pat themselves on the back.

So, what about the newfangled shiny Annihilape?

They simply upped the blue saturation slider from near zero to around 10%. Shiny Annihilape is a smoky indigo colour, which isn't bad - at least now your perfect shiny Primeape can evolve into something that doesn’t look totally awful too bad...

Other tips for this Spotlight Hour

    Primeape.

Aside from trying to catch a perfect shiny Mankey in Pokémon Go, there are a couple of other good reasons to partake in this week’s Spotlight Hour. The vast majority of players showing up for this Spotlight Hour will no doubt be doing so for the hour-long special bonus below:

    • The best reason is, of course, the double transfer candy. As always, this runs throughout the hour and affects more than just the Pokémon in the spotlight. This is a very important bonus to make the most of, especially for lower-level trainers looking to fill out their Pokédex. The smartest way to maximise do this is to create a Tag in your Pokémon storage just for this purpose.
    • We recommend creating a tag called 'Transfer', where you can place Pokémon you don’t want or need. Instead of transferring them as and when you catch them, hold them back for events like these, when you can bulk transfer them. All that Candy adds up very quickly, and is especially useful when transferring something like a Mewtwo for double candy, or after a huge event like Go Fest Global!
    • You also have an increased chance of getting Candy XL when transferring Pokémon.
    • Thanks to Binacle being a Rock/Water-type Pokémon, catching a bunch during this Spotlight Hour will add progress to your respective catch bonus medals.

Remember – Spotlight Hour events only last for an hour – 6pm to 7pm (local time). Check back next week for the buzz on Magnemite, and its double evolution XP bonus!

Good luck finding a perfect shiny Mankey!
